You Got Superpowers: Integrating Moral Resources in the Work-Family Enrichment Framework

In their Academy of Management Review article on work family enrichment, Greenhaus and Powell (2006) argue that a set of resources originates from the roles people have in family and work. Their purpose is to "present a theory of work-family enrichment that specifies the conditions under which work and family are 'allies' rather than 'enemies"' (p. 72). However, their framework does not mention the existence of moral resources. This contribution aims to characterize the moral resources that originate in both professional and personal contexts, specifically the virtues, and how they actively participate in the dynamic of work family enrichment. Following Aristotle and the Neo Aristotelian scholarship linked to Alasdair MacIntyre, this contribution characterizes what the virtues are, how they are generated in both family and work environments, and how they are transmitted from one role to the other.
