Title: The Metalog Distributions: An Introduction

Abstract: A new family of continuous probability distributions, the metalog distributions, is a significant advance over the 100-year-old family of Pearson distributions (Normal, Beta, Student t, Gamma, Chi Squared, F, and others). In contrast to the Pearson distributions, the metalogs have virtually unlimited shape and bounds flexibility; are easier to fit to data (using linear least squares instead of non-linear parameter estimation); have simpler closed form equations; and are easier to simulate. Designed for practical use with empirical and other data sets in virtually any field of human endeavor, metalogs (with freely available software) can make it fast and easy to convert data into a continuous probability distribution and to gain and communicate otherwise-unavailable insights. A recently published Wikipedia article provides more background.

The metalogs have been endorsed by Stanford Professor Ron Howard as “a major contribution” and by Nobel laureate Harry Markowitz with “I believe!” This seminar is your opportunity to learn about them and to discuss practical applications and questions directly with the inventor.
